The “Cagliari/Cagliari” first stage of Giro d’Italia Donne’s 33^rd Edition is just concluded

First Pink Jersey to the American cyclist from the BIKEEXCHANGE – JAYCO TEAM, also winning the second place with Georgia Baker; third ranker is Elisa Balsamo from TREK SEGAFREDO, Green and Blue Jersey.

Cagliari, 30^th June 2022 – First stage and Pink Jersey is taken by the American Kristen Faulkner of the BIKEEXCHANGE – JAYCO TEAM, with an individual time trial of 05:45:81 with a 49.450 km/h average. Right behind her, fellow team member Australian Georgia Baker scores 05:49:49. Third ranking cyclist is the world champion Elisa Balsamo from TREK – SEGAFREDO with a 5:51:32 score, owning both Green and Blue.

Top 10 list also features Elisa Longo Borghini from TREK – SEGAFREDO, fifth ranker with 5:54:97. White Jersey goes to Kata Blanka Vas from SD WORX with 06:10:24.

The first Pink Jersey declares: “I am glad and truly proud, especially for my team’s work. It is an honour to wear the first Pink Jersey of Giro Donne 2022. We’ll see what happens in the next stages, step by step. We must aim for the fourth stage where I believe I can best prove myself but first I need to focus on the next 2 races”.

Tomorrow, Friday 1^st June, the race continues in Sardinia with the “Villasimius – Tortolì” stage. The ride starts at h 12.40 pm, almost at sea level then unfolding for 106.6 km in the Ogliastra territory while never reaching the 161 metres of altitude. The route passes through the towns of Muravera, Villaputzu and Bari Sardo. At km 7.5 the athletes will encounter the first Mountain Grand Prix of this edition, a Fourth-category in Castiadias, while at km 74.1 the cyclists will cross the first “Traguardo Volante” (flying finishing line) in Tertenia. The arrival time is estimated around h 3.24 pm.
