GIRO DONNE GIVES THE 2022 PINK JERSEY TO UNHCR
The official handover of the 2022 Giro Donne Pink Jersey to UNHCR will take place on Monday 20 June
Reggio Emilia, 10 June 2022 – In the spirit of solidarity and peace, Giro Donne chooses to donate the 2022 Pink Jersey to UNHCR.
“In light of the great commitment that UNHCR has been making for over 70 years to the protection and assistance of refugees around the world and the further emergency due to the conflict in Ukraine, we felt the urgency to do our part by making available the most precious and distinctive element of the Giro Donne, the Pink Jersey – says Roberto Ruini, Director of Giro Donne and founder of PMG Sport / Starlight. “I believe that sport by its very nature, can and must give important signals in favor of peace, hospitality and global brotherhood. We are sure that even the athletes who are lucky enough to wear it will feel the same feeling of honor and pride “.
A partnership that combines sport and solidarity and which expresses the closeness of PMG Sport / Starlight to the activity of the UN Refugee Agency, twice awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, present in 135 countries and committed with 100 million of people, mostly women and children.

Each of them needs protection and this means safety but also the opportunity to freely express their talent. The official consignment of the 2022 Giro Donne Pink Jersey to UNHCR will be held on Monday 20 June on the occasion of World Refugee Day during the round table entitled Refugees, from asylum to integration: partnerships and innovative solutions for an unprecedented crisis held at the Palazzo Rospigliosi Congress Center in Rome.
Giro Donne 2022, the most prestigious stage competition in the women’s cycling scene, kicks off on 30 June from Cagliari and ends in Padua on 10 July after crossing Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto. A 1,000 km course that will see 144 athletes from the best 24 teams in the World compete for the Pink Jersey. Thanks to the 2-hour live broadcast agreements with RAI for Italy and with the Discovery / Eurosport network, together with Global Cycling Network (GCN +), the competition will be visible in over 200 countries around the world on 5 continents.
