Saturday 9th July, h 10:55 am

After the “Rovereto – Aldeno” with the Pink Jersey Annemiek van Vleuten (MOVISTAR TEAM WOMEN) as its winner, today Saturday 9th July Giro concludes its Trentino-Alto Adige stages with the 112.8-km long “San Michele all’Adige – San Lorenzo Dorsino”, penultimate race and Queen Stage of this edition right before the grand finale in Padua. The ninth stage thus starts in San Michele all’Adige at 10:55 am at 204 m altitude. After 10 km in Mezzolombardo the athletes must face 800 metres of elevation gain across 12 km of track eventually culminating with the 2nd-tier MGP at 1032 m above sea level at km 22.8. After a tortuous descent touching Andalo, Molveno and San Lorenzo Dorsino, where the finish line in crossed in the opposite way, the race falls under 500 m altitude before facing another 2nd-tier MGP: over 500 metres of height drop in less than 10 km encompassing Passo Duron at km 62.4. After another downward slope leading to Ponte Fiume Sarca (Sarca river’s bridge), a Traguardo Volante is set at 76.2 km around Vigo Rendena while at km 80 the true challenge begins: a climb towards the 1st-tier MGP at Passo Daone at km 86.9, this edition’s “Cima Coppi” at 1291 km above sea level. The stage then proceeds for 30 more km across Trentino’s mountains before reaching the finish line in San Lorenzo Dorsino. The arrival time is estimated around 2:15 pm. 115 contestants at the start.

SAN MICHELE ALL’ADIGE (TN), 3,999 inhabitants

The village of San Michele all’Adige is dominated by the majestic architecture of a former Augustinian convent and its elegant baroque church, one of the most historically relevant in the region. The building now houses two institutions of excellence: the Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina (Museum of Habits and Customs of the Trentino People), a unique and evocative treasure of traditions, and the Edmund Mach Foundation, an international research centre on viticulture: it is no coincidence that the scenic hills rising up to the quaint village of Faedo are covered with lush vineyards. This is where quality red and white wines are produced, as well as the renowned sparkling wine labelled “TrentoDOC”.

SAN LORENZO DORSINO (TN), 1,600 inhabitants

San Lorenzo Dorsino is a beautiful town composed of seven villages. The cobbled streets, the ancient peasant abodes leaning against each other and the small frescoed churches tell of a past still very present. Listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy, it is the gateway to Val Ambiéz, one of the wildest valleys in the Brenta Dolomites. An authentic mountainous village where human life flows along with nature, San Lorenzo Dorsino offers numerous hiking trails, rocky walls ideal for climbing and mountain bike itineraries around Nembia Lake, known for its emerald green waters. The Falesia Dimenticata (Forgotten Cliff) is one of its iconic climbing walls, acquired and restored thanks to crowdfunding by the local population. The “ciuìga” is a typical local delicacy, a white-turnip flavoured sausage with its own festival held in autumn.
