ROVERETO (TN), 39,859 inhabitants

Between Trento and Verona, nestled among hills and vineyards, Rovereto is in the centre of the Adige Valley and has always been a crossroads of cultures, a link between the plains and mountains, as well as Italian and German culture. The city centre narrates an ideal journey through different eras: the Middle Ages with the walls of the Castelbarco and the Serenissima’s dominion in the Fifteenth century with the Podestà’s house, while the Eighteenth century can be spotted in the buildings of Corso Bettini. Finally, the First World War can be experienced in the castle halls up to modern times and in the great international museums, such as MART (Museum of modern and contemporary art by Trento and Rovereto). Rovereto is also a City of Peace, as evidenced by its majestic Campana dei Caduti (Bell of the Fallen) and the shrine of Castel Dante (Dante Castle), which preserves the remains of over 20,000 soldiers. Moreover, Rovereto offers a calendar full of art events, featuring dance festivals, theatre, music, cinema and archeology from the prose seasons to the outdoor shows.

ALDENO (TN), 3,190 inhabitants

Nestled in the Adige Valley, on the eastern slopes of Mount Bondone and surrounded by splendid vineyards, Aldeno is one of the most beautiful historical villages in the valley. The area produces fine wines together with excellent fruit and vegetables, including apples, plums, cherries, and asparagus. The town is also famous for its exquisite craftsmanship of marble, wood and iron products. Already inhabited since the Neolithic, Aldeno boasts an ancient history encompassing the Roman, the Lombard and the “Comun Comunale” eras, which brought together the villages previously included in the community of Pieve Lagarina. A historical period being reenacted today during the event “Il Comun Comunale: i Giochi e la Regola” (“Comun Comunale: Games and Rules”). Among the town’s oldest monuments it is worth mentioning Castello delle Flecche (Flecche Castle), the Civic Tower and St. Modesto parish church. Aldeno is surrounded by the woods and rocky peaks of the Regional Reserve called “Tre Cime Monte Bondone”, a meaningful biotope for the many species in its Alpine Botanical Garden and the Terrace of the Stars managed by MUSE (Trento’s Science Museum).
