Van der Breggen again is the great protagonist of the day: in the time trial shewins the stage and Cima Coppi in 24’57”57 at an average speed of 26.92 km/h. Behind her, Demi Vollering at 1’05”, who scores the double win for the SDW TEAM SD WORX Dutch team. Placed third is Grace Brown of TEAM BIKEEXCHANGE at 1’16”.With tomorrow’s stage, Milan-Carugate of 120.1 km, the pink race arrives in Lombardy.Flat course and first finish for fast wheels with a final circuit of 26 km to be repeated four times.

Anna Van der Breggen wins the 11.2 km individual time trial from Formazza Fondovale to Formazza Riale with a time of 24’57”57 and an average speed of 26.92 km/h.

Dutch double win with Demi Vollering (SDW TEAM SD WORX) who with a time of 26’03”22 and a gap of 1’05” climbs to the second step of the podium. The color-bearer of the TEAM BIKEEXCHANGE, Grace Brown, is on the third step of the podium in 26’14”30 at 1’16” behind the winner. For Anna Van der Breggen this is the second victory in the 2021 edition. The high-level performance by the world champion Anna Van der Breggen closes the Piedmontese stages of the Giro d’Italia Donne and she keeps the lead of the general classification.

The winner’s statement: “It was a great time trial and a good approach for the Olympics. I am truly in a privileged position to be surrounded by my teammates. It’s really nice to ride with them”.

Chronicle of the Race – Sara Casasola (SERVETTO – MAKHYMO – BELTRAMI TSA) scores the best time, 28’49”31 of the first group of the three at the start, becoming the reference time trial for the second group of athletes.

While Lucinda Brand (TREK – SEGAFREDO) is the last athlete to start on the Formazza Fondovalle launching pad, thus closing the second starting block. For the last group of athletes at the starting line, including the top ten in the general classification, 26’14 “is the reference time recorded by Grace Brown (TEAM BIKEEXCHANGE) at an average speed of 25.6 km/h. But it is in the third starting block that the competition becomes serious. The Italian Elisa Longo Borghini scores the second best split time of 9’17”98 at km 5 and remains second on the virtual podium. In the final moments, the top ten closes at 2’38”.

Also noteworthy is the excellent performance of the Italian Marta Cavalli, fifth on arrival at 1’54”. But it is the Maglia Rosa Anna Van der Breggen that performs a high-level race: already in the inter-time she overthrows her teammate Ashleigh Pasio Moolman (Sd Worx Team), second to last to start and best intermediate time: 8’45”55 against 8’59”33 by Moolman. At the finish line Anna Van der Breggen stops the time trial at 24’57”. She is the stage winner, keeping the Maglia Rosa and Ciclamino.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 6th July, the 5th STAGE from MILAN to CARUGATE starts at 11:40 am. The Giro d’Italia Donne 2021 arrives in Lombardy for a 122 km-long flat stage that starts in Milan in Piazza Affari and then travels to some of the most famous squares of the city such as Duomo, Della Scala, San Babila and Loreto: a city parade between the streets of Milan. After reaching via Palmanova in the north-eastern outskirts of Milan, they arrive in Martesana and lower Brianza, historically green flat areas rich in waterways. After going in Cascina Gobba, Vimodrone and Pioltello, the route crosses the Naviglio della Martesana, the navigable canal that connects the Adda to Milan and which was the subject of Leonardo da Vinci’s studies during his stay in Milan. In Cernusco sul Naviglio, the cyclist enter a 26 km circuit which they will run four times and which goes in the municipalities of Bussero, Gessate, Cambiago, Caponago, Agrate Brianza and finally Carugate, the finish line of the stage.

The 4th stage can be seen on TV today, Monday 5th July on Rai Sport HD at 7.35 with the best of the stage in 50’ and on Rai2 with a 10-minute summary during Tour Replay. Tomorrow, Tuesday 6th July on Eurosport 1, recorded broadcast at 11 am
